The Sophie Jane Darr Children’s Foundation

Our beautiful four year old granddaughter Sophie passed away in December of 2007 after a courageous battle with brain cancer. She was a typical innocent child full of wonder, curiosity and love. Her courageous battle, smile, and loving spirit have been an inspiration to all who knew her.

The mission of the Sophie Jane Darr Children’s Foundation is to raise money for the families of children affected by cancer and other life threatening illnesses that need financial assistance. In just eight years, the foundation has raised and distributed more than $500,000 to many local families in financial need; however, there are many more that need our help. We are proud to say that 100% of all proceeds raised are distributed. When finances are strained and insurance companies can’t help, the social workers at the local children’s hospitals use our charity as a great resource to help families. In honor or Sophie, the Foundation has helped families with monthly bills, purchasing an access ramp, a chair lift, and many other worthwhile needs. The Foundation also supports the Amigos de Jesus orphanage in Honduras, which is home to over 120 kids that have been abandoned, abused, or are hungry and sick.

To support those we serve, we have two major fundraising events each year. The Neverland Ball is held in February – a semi-formal gala featuring a cocktail reception, dinner, dancing, silent auction and a fantastic basket raffle. The annual Golf Outing and Auction Gala takes place every September hosted by Michael and Rachael Odorisio. The tournament includes lunch, cocktails and dinner, basket auction and a competitive round of golf.

Please consider contributing to our foundation by becoming an event sponsor, coming to one of our events or just by making a donation. All contributions can be made through our web site by selecting the event or donation type you wish to support. Many thanks for your generosity and support of Sophie’s mission and memory.

Gratefully,

Phil and Jane Rapone
